SolarSMART Tools: Solar Installation Map Tutorial

Athens Clarke County just made big news with the announcement of the pledge to be 100% clean and renewable energy by 2035. Since solar plays a big part in that, you might wonder what part solar already plays in Athens as well as the rest of Georgia! SolarSMART is a data tool, and we've made an interactive solar installation map so you can check on what solar installations are already out there! But how to use it, you ask? Scroll down for our quick solar installation map tutorial!

Up there by the logo, there's a menu link that says 'TOOLS'. Roll your cursor over it and scroll down to 'Local Installations' and click it.

You'll see a screen that looks like this. You can zoom in on the map with the - and + buttons on the top left, or use your scroll wheel on your mouse, or two fingers on the trackpad. On the left, you'll see the filtering options.

Below the map you can scroll down on the page and see each one in a list. But 2030 installations in Georgia? Let's narrow that down a bit. See on the left there where it says 'County'? Let's click that.

It's give us a list of every county in Georgia. I live in Clarke, so that's what I've clicked. You can select multiples.

Scroll all the way down and click 'Apply'

You'll get this repopulated and zoomed in map! There's Athens Clarke County, with 101 solar installations. Wow! You can use the sliders on the left side to see bigger or smaller ones if you need to exclude some

Zoom in and click a node, and it will give you information on the install date, its type, it's KWH, and more. Talk about detailed!
